Bound in full leather, front cover of both volumes hinged by original binding cords as leather has cracked. O/W sound and solid. Some foxing. The identity of Junius is in doubt. Proposed were, Lord Chesterfield, Edmund Burke, Edward Gibbon, Thomas Pained, and Horace Walpole. Junius was the pen name of the writer of a series of vitriolic letters against King George the III that were published in a London newspaper shortly before the American Revolution. This is presumed 1st American edition. He gained fame through his literary skill and because of the mystery of his identity, the controversy over his real name still exists. Previous is quoted from a 1951 newspaper article included with the book that tells of a book dealer selling Junius's private copy by mistake for $17.50.
